I did not assign any homework today. Students took a grammar & mechanics diagnostic test to help me decide what we can and cannot afford to skip or skim over in these first weeks of school.
Tomorrow, students will receive their STAR test results, ZPD's, and AR point goals for the nine weeks. So, students, make SURE you bring your library book (A Wrinkle in Time or the book you checked out last week) to read tomorrow - we will spend a portion of the class time reading independently.

Today, after a conversation and exercise on setting goals, we had a brief review lesson on subjects and predicates (all classes except for my homeroom class; they will do this tomorrow).
I issued students their red Grammar and Language workbooks, and we began exercise 1 on page 51 together for practice.
Students are to finish that exercise (pgs. 51-52) for homework for tomorrow (Tuesday the 16th).
Also, continue to study "Attitude" by Charles Swindoll. Students will write this passage from memory for their first test grade this Friday, 8-19-11.
